A rare vintage Wampum and Sterling Silver Southwest style ring available for sale. Wampum is the word for cabochons made from Quahog shell. It was some of the earliest currency used in North America. Quahogs are the State Shellfish of Rhode Island, the state where Peter grew up. Quahogs are found in the North East and therefore it is rare to find a Southwest piece containing wampum. Wampum contains both white and purple coloring. Quahogs can produce purple pearls which are extremely rare and valuable.
The band of the ring is slightly under 1/2 of an inch at its widest. The Wampum cabochons are about 1/4 of an inch tall by 1/8 of an inch wide. It weighs approximately 4 grams. The band size is approximately 8.25.
There are no purity stamps for the metal but it tests well for Sterling Silver. There are also no maker's mark.
