925 Silver Taxco Mexico Aztec Calendar Brooch or Pendant
This beautiful brooch of the Aztec Calender can be worn with a chain to form a pendant as well. This is a great example of the skill of the Mexican silversmiths from Taxco.
The main center section of the brooch is the Aztec calendar in very good detail. Silver can be a unique material to work with as the patina at times adds to the contrast of the piece, as we can see with the sharp contrast between the raised polished designs and depressed darker regions of the design. The calendar is set in a circular silver halo with cut-out designs.
The piece is approximately 2 inches in diameter and weighs 16 grams. The stamping on this pieces is imprecise, however, I believe the following stamps to be on the piece: 925, Mexico, and the Taxco eagle. There are also some letters which I will not guess at.
This beautiful piece is sold as is and buyer pays shipping of $5.
